A Good Day to Try it Out

Let the weak say, “I am strong.”  — Joel 3:10

In this verse, the Israelites are preparing for war.  They are calling on God to make their much inferior weapons mightier than the arsenal of the enemy.  They are being commanded not to say, “We can’t win.”  Even if that is what they feel, they are to speak and proclaim the opposite, “We are strong in the Lord and well equipped for victory.”

Yesterday, I pulled a 17.5 hour day.  I started at 6:30 am and got home at midnight.  I immediately went to sleep, and it felt like I had to wake up almost instantaneously.  I have a really bad habit of saying, “I’m tired” when I feel like this.  I am always right!  I drag through the day looking forward to an early bedtime.

Today, I’m sure I’ll say it plenty of times out of habit, but I’m going to add Joel 3:10 to it after I do . . . “I am strong in the Lord!  This is what He does . . . work in weakness.”  This has me thinking about other bad habits that I may have where I speak things into existence that I don’t have to endure.

Let the weak say, “I am strong.”

Today is a good day to try it out.

Lord, there is no one like You.  You love to work in weakness.  You love to make a way when there is no way.  There was no way the Israelites could defeat the Egyptian army.  There is no way David could beat Goliath.  There is no way those three boys could escape Nebuchadnezzar’s fire.  There is no way those hungry lions wouldn’t eat Daniel.  Peter thought there was no way You could restore him after he denied You three times.  I may be weak, but today I am strong and well equipped to honor You with my life.  Amen!
